PI-GRO continues to be actively engaged in advocacy efforts to ensure passage of critical legislation which would provide adequate and timely prevention and mental health services for women at risk for or with postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis. Sponsored by Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), the Melanie Blocker Stokes MOTHERS Act will be included in the Advancing America's Priorities Act, a package of bills which is expected to be debated on the Senate floor in the near future. PI-GRO staff was actively involved in drafting this legislation in 2001 and its passage remains a top legislative priority for the office. A similar version of the bill, sponsored by Representative Bobby Rush (D-IL), overwhelmingly passed the US House by a vote of 383-3 in October 2007.
