APA Promotes Eldercare Workforce Issues in HCR

At an advocacy day, APA and others urge Congress to ensure the availability of enough workers to care for an aging America.

With the Eldercare Workforce Alliance (EWA) – a group of 29 organizations working to address the immediate and future workforce crisis in caring for an aging America – PI-GRO coordinated an exciting federal advocacy day to urge Congress to expand and enhance the health care workforce for older adults as part of federal health reform efforts.

Interdisciplinary teams of EWA experts and advocates (representing both the professional and direct care workforce) met with key congressional offices responsible for health reform to promote EWA health reform priorities, including several legislative proposals and provisions that APA was instrumental in drafting and securing in the bill produced by the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. EWA also purchased a full page color advertisement in the Roll Call Newspaper highlighting their collective health reform priorities and encouraging congressional support for these initiatives. Finally, EWA coordinated a national congressional call-in day for grassroots advocates from around the country.
