Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal, a long-term priority for PI-GRO, advances

With efforts moving forward to repeal the Defense Department policy concerning homosexuality, also referred to as “Don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT), PI-GRO sent an action alert to APA members in support of legislative activities in the House of Representatives
The House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2011 Defense Authorization bill which included a provision authored by Representative Patrick Murphy (D-PA) that repeals DADT.  Specifically, this provision would repeal DADT 60 days after the completion of a military review and certification by President Obama, Defense Secretary Gates, and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Mullen that the repeal would not harm military effectiveness.  PI-GRO followed-up on its 2009 letter in support of Representative Murphy’s legislation to repeal DADT by mobilizing APA’s grassroots during this important effort.  Advocates expect the Senate to take up their version of this legislation, which also includes the DADT repeal language, shortly.
