Efforts on domestic HIV prevention address mental health, coordination
In critical policy discussions around HIV/AIDS, PI-GRO continues to highlight the need for federal investments in mental health
PI-GRO, with leadership of several national HIV/AIDS policy organizations, met with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Thomas Frieden to discuss national strategies for reducing HIV transmission in the United States. Confronting the domestic HIV epidemic stands as one of six “winnable” battles that Dr. Frieden believes the CDC can achieve over the coming years. PI-GRO emphasized the critical importance of addressing mental health and substance abuse disorders in HIV prevention and urged the CDC to enhance coordination efforts with other federal public health agencies.
