PI-GRO works to educate agencies and advocates about mental health and juvenile justice

Mental health advocates responded during May and June to the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention’s (OJJDP) plan for federal fiscal year 2010
PI-GRO engaged in efforts recently to raise awareness around critical mental and behavioral health issues in juvenile justice policy (PDF, 73 KB). These activities included ad hoc coalition meetings with lead staff from the OJJDP and a briefing given by the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice for members of the Mental Health Liaison Group. APA and other groups undertook these steps out of concern for the recent omission of mental and behavioral health priorities in Department of Justice policy documents on juvenile justice.  PI-GRO plans to continue working with OJJDP staff to develop action steps to address this critical area of need.
