APA President-elect moderates Congressional Hispanic Caucus Mental Health Summit

Representative Grace Napolitano (D-CA) invited APA President-elect Melba Vasquez, PhD, to moderate a September 13, 2010, symposium at the Annual Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute Public Policy Conference

The session, entitled Mental Health in the Latino Community: Erasing the Stigma, Breaking the Silence, and Healing the Mind for Better Tomorrows, included remarks by Dr. Vasquez on her presidential task forces focused on the issues of immigration, discrimination and bias, and education disparities. Other invited panelists included: Pamela Hyde, Administrator of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA); Henry Acosta, Executive Director of the National Resource Center for Hispanic Mental Health; and MaJose Carrasco, Director of the Multicultural Action Center at the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
