ACT Annual Leadership Seminar marks 10th anniversary

The seminar included updates about the ACT program model, protocols, materials and evaluation

With generous support from the Pritzker Early Childhood Foundation, the Violence Prevention Office held the 7th Annual ACT Leadership Seminar at the APA headquarters in Washington, DC, hosting 46 professionals from program sites in the United States, Colombia, and Greece.

Marking its 10th year as APA’s early violence prevention initiative, the ACT Raising Safe Kids program engages communities and educate parents and caregivers in creating safe, nurturing, healthy environments that protect children and youth from violence and its consequences.

The ACT Raising Safe Kids Program is implemented in 22 states in the United States, and in Columbia, Peru, Puerto Rico, and Greece.

Topics of discussion at the two-day Leadership Seminar included: 

  • updates about the ACT program model, protocols, materials, evaluation 

  • a panel of ACT coordinators who presented their experiences running the program 

  • presentations on involving fathers in parenting and in parenting interventions, bullying and its impact on children and adolescents, cultural influences on parenting, and marketing a program in the communities 

During the seminar, a reception was organized to celebrate the program's 10th anniversary.
