Recovery to Practice Update

Through the Recovery to Practice Initiative, APA is assessing the degree to which mental health recovery has been integrated in the field of psychology and is developing a curriculum for training psychologists that will enhance the current psychology training system by emphasizing recovery outcomes as the basis for clinical care; will enhance the recovery knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students, supervisors, and administrators in psychology, and is consistent with and will enhance the current accreditation standards.

We are currently in the stages of developing our curriculum modules and have four completed to date:  Introduction to Recovery Based Psychological Practice; The Recovery Movement: Role of Psychologists and Health Care Reform; Community Inclusion; and Person Centered Planning. In addition to the current curriculum construction, we are working to secure visits with training directors at their mid-winter conferences in order to present the curriculum to them and discuss their participation in the pilot testing of these modules.
