In 2012, Barack Obama proclaimed National Family Caregivers Month in November. APA’s Office on Aging is a critical resource on psychology’s role in and contribution to issues related to family caregiving. The Director of the Office on Aging, Deborah DiGilio, has been appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Alliance for Caregiving. APA has a long history with the alliance, both on the board, as well as through additional projects. The National Alliance for Caregiving is a nonprofit coalition of national organizations focusing on issues of family caregiving. It was created to conduct research, do policy analysis, develop national programs, increase public awareness of family caregiving issues, work to strengthen state and local caregiving coalitions and represent the U.S. caregiving community internationally.
