Biography of Sara Honn Qualls
Sara Honn Qualls, Ph.D. is the Kraemer Family Professor of Aging Studies Professor, Professor of Psychology, and Director of the Gerontology Center at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. She led the development of the doctoral program in Clinical Psychology (Emphasizing Geropsychology) at UCCS, and the establishment of the CU Aging Center which provides mental health and family support services for older adults in the region. Dr. Qualls coordinates efforts of UCCS faculty and students on behalf of the community in collaborative projects, such as the Innovative University-Private Collaborative senior housing project, Palisades at Broadmoor Park.
Dr. Qualls has expertise in marital and family development in later life and clinical interventions for later life couples and families, mental health and aging, and technologies to support aging well-being. She has published several books including an edited series on Clinical Geropsychology with Wiley Publishing, and a video of the Caregiver Family Therapy that was developed at the CU Aging Center. She works collaboratively with colleagues and community partners on NIA-funded technology projects to foster health and well-being in older adults. In 2011, she is Chair of the APA Committee on Aging, and has served as a founding officer in APA Division 12 Section II and the Council of Professional Geropsychology Training Programs, as well as serving in other leadership roles and on journal editorial boards.
