Volume 1, Summer 2007 Office on Aging Convention Programming Highlights by Deborah DiGilio, MPH The APA Committee on Aging (CONA) Conversation Hour: Integrative Health Care for an Aging Population Moving from Report to Real World The APA Committee on Aging (CONA) will hold its annual Conversation Hour on Saturday, August 18, 2007, from 3:15-4:30 pm at the San Francisco Marriott Hotel in the Nob Hill Rooms A and B. The title of the conversation hour will be "Integrative Health Care for an Aging Population Moving from Report to Real World." Please join us to discuss the next steps APA might take to leverage the momentum generated by Dr. Brehm's Presidential Task Force to achieve meaningful future outcomes in this important area. Committee on Aging Award for the Advancement of Psychology and Aging Martha Storandt, PhD is the recipient of the 2007 Committee on Aging Award for the Advancement of Psychology and Aging. Dr. Storandt has worked for more than four decades to establish and advance the scientific study of the psychology of aging. Her current research focuses on understanding the distinction between normal aging and Alzheimer's disease, and how each affects cognitive function. She is also interested in strategies healthy older people can use to compensate for age-related changes in memory. Aging and Health Disparities: Cumulative Effects of Race, Gender and Socioeconomic Status The Committee on Aging (CONA) will cosponsor a symposium "Aging and Health Disparities: Cumulative Effects of Race, Gender and Socioeconomic Status (SES)." CONA Chair, Rosemary Blieszner, PhD will chair the symposium. Participants include: David Chiriboga, PhD, Barbara Yee, PhD, and James Jackson, PhD. Toni Antonucci, PhD will serve as discussant. The symposium is scheduled for August 19, 2007, from 3:00-3:50 pm in Room 224 at the Moscone Convention Center. This symposium is a part of a series being sponsored by the APA Board for the Advancement of Psychology in the Public Interest (BAPPI) entitled "The Psychological and Health Impacts of Social Injustice." The series is being cosponsored by the APA Committee on Aging (CONA), the APA Committee on Children, Youth and Families (CYF), the APA Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA), the APA Committee on Disability Issues in Psychology (CDIP), the APA Committee on Women and Psychology (CWP), and Divisions 27, 45, 51, and 9.
