An update from the committee

The Early Learning Guidelines (ELG) Educator Toolkit, recap of 2013 APA Convention Activities and Public Interest blog, Psychology Benefits Society.

The Children, Youth & Families Committee (CYF) has focused recent work on four main activities:

  1. publishing the CYF News,
  2. reviewing APA policies, guidelines, activities and reports to ensure that children and families are appropriately considered in all that the association does,
  3. moving forward with its strategic plan and
  4. providing resources on important topics for children, youth and families.

Several CYF members have provided blog posts for the new Public Interest blog, Psychology Benefits Society. If you’ve not yet seen the blog, please take a look. Additionally, CYF coordinated and CYF member Lali McCubbin, PhD, chaired the APA convention symposium, “Culture and Health Disparities among Asian Americans and Native Hawaiians: Indigenous Theory, Research and Practice.” CYF is currently compiling resources related to this symposium, and will make those resources available via the APA website later this year.

The Early Learning Guidelines (ELG) Educator Toolkit described in the Director’s Notes was developed by Roseanne Flores, PhD, CYF co-chair. The toolkit is an excellent resource for early childhood educators, care providers and for parents who want to better understand the education goals for young children. The toolkit can be found on the ELG Educator Toolkit webpage.
