Surveys were sent to the chairpersons of graduate
programs in psychology and associated fields. The programs surveyed were those contained
in the database of graduate programs maintained by the APA Research Office for the purpose
of publishing Faculty Salaries in Graduate Departments of Psychology. Included in
the database are 1) the programs listed in Graduate Study in Psychology (published by APA
to assist applicants to select programs), 2) all full and associate members of the
National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology, and 3) those
departments in associated fields that have a strong emphasis in psychology. At the time of
the survey, the database contained 708 programs in Canada and the United States, 440
doctoral programs and 268 Masters only programs.
The questionnaire used in the survey was sent to the
chairs of the programs in September 1996. Those not responding were sent a second
questionnaire in November 1996. Three hundred and seventy-six programs (53%) returned the
questionnaire, 255 (58%) of the doctoral programs and 121 (45%) of the Masters programs.

your students who are interested in obtaining supervised experience with lesbian, gay, or
bisexual clients?

self-identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual?
