Space adjuster section divider

In Spring 2005, the APA Office of Lesbian, Gay, & Bisexual Concerns conducted a survey of chairpersons of graduate programs in psychology to gather information about graduate faculty in psychology interested in lesbian, gay, & bisexual issues.

About the Survey

Surveys were sent to the chairpersons of graduate programs in psychology and associated fields. The programs surveyed were those contained in the database of graduate programs maintained by the APA Research Office for the purpose of publishing Faculty Salaries in Graduate Departments of Psychology. Included in the database are 1) the programs listed in Graduate Study in Psychology (published by APA to assist applicants to select programs), 2) all full and associate members of the National Council of Schools and Programs of Professional Psychology, and 3) those departments in associated fields that have a strong emphasis in psychology. At the time of the survey, the database contained 750 programs in Canada and the United States, 487 doctoral programs and 263 Masters only programs.

The questionnaire used in the survey was sent to the chairs of the programs in March 2005. Two email reminders were sent to nonrespondents two weeks apart in April 2005. One hundred and sixty programs (21%) returned the questionnaire, 117 (24%) of the doctoral programs and 43 (16%) of the Masters programs.

The Survey is divided into four sections:
