Student Awards and Honors

Maricela Correa from UCLA received a Ford Foundation Fellowship and has been accepted to the University of California-Santa Cruz's developmental psychology program.

Nicole Gougis received the Cota Robles Fellowship and has been accepted to UCLA's cognitive psychology program.

Bassalla Mutua received an Academic Advancement Program scholarship.

Carmelle Norice has been nominated for membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at UCLA.

Diane Waddell from UCLA has been accepted for graduate studies at the California School of Professional Psychology.

Project Faculty Awards and Honors

Dr. Ivy Dunn, core team leader from the Department of Psychology, Chicago State University, received two awards from her institution this year. The first, a Faculty Excellence Award for teaching; and the second, an Outstanding Service Award for grant writing and administration. Dr. Dunn attributed her participation in the many APA/NIGMS Project-related activities as playing a role in her receiving the awards. Congratulations, Dr. Dunn!

Dr. Robin Hailstorks, core team leader from the Department of Psychology, Prince George's Community College, was accepted to the 1999 Current Topics in Genetic Research Short Course through the Department of Health and Human Services, National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). Congratulations, Dr. Hailstorks!

Dr. Rosemary Veniegas, hired to assist the UCLA APA/NIGMS Scholars Program, received her doctorate degree from UCLA in social psychology in June. Dr. Veniegas will leave the project to pursue a 2-year postdoctoral degree at Berkeley in social psychology. We wish her the best in her pursuits.
