- The Southeastern Region's Psychology Research Initiatives Mentorship Experience (PRIME) Summer Research Program begins at the University of Miami.

- Enhanced Research Training Opportunities for Ethnic Minority Students in Psychology (ETEP) Summer Fellowship at the University of Maryland begins. Four Morgan State students and one student from the University of Maryland participate.

- University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) organizes "Graduate School in Psychology" workshop for APA/NIGMS Scholars.
- July 13-17, 1998
- Summer Public Health Research Videoconference and Institute on Minority Health is held at Truman Community College.
- Fall Semester
- Biopsychology class is developed at Truman Community College. Twenty-four students enroll.
- Fall 1998
- Psychology 365 course begins at the University of Miami. Seventeen students enroll in the class. Eleven are ethnic minorities.
- August 16, 1998
- Project holds a luncheon meeting
during the APA Annual Convention in San Francisco.
- September 1998
- California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and Santa Monica
College (SMC) program participants attend a lab visit at UCLA.
- September 1998
- Chicago State University (CSU) opens the Life Sciences Center.
- September 21, 1998
- NIGMS awards APA $50,000 in
supplemental funding for the proposed planning conference.
- October 1998
- UCLA hosts a collaborative site visit for the Western Regional Center of Excellence.
- October 1998
- Members of the Rocky Mountain Regional Center attend the Red Road Retreat in Vermillion, South Dakota.
- October 1, 1998
- Southeastern Regional Center's first of six PRIME Lectures begins for the fall semester.
- October 5, 1998
- Project hires Beverly Lyles as grant writer.

- Project hires Wanda Robinson as
conference planner.

- Rocky Mountain Regional Center mails first issue of Psych on the Rise newsletter for high school students.

- UCLA program participants attend a seminar on careers in biobehavioral research related to psychology.

- Truman Community College and CSU hold an open house at Truman College.

"Planning for the Future: Ethnic Minorities in the Biomedical Sciences" is held in Washington, DC.

- APA submits competitive renewal application for the APA/NIGMS project.
- April 14, 1999
- Prince George's Community College holds a "Science, Technology, and Research Training" (START) conference.
- May 7, 1999
- APA submits an addendum to the competitive renewal application to the NIGMS Minority Access to Research Careers Branch (MARC) Review Subcommittee.
- May 21, 1999
- The first cohort of UCLA APA/NIGMS Scholars give their final research
presentations.
