Public Interest Policy Office
The Public Interest Policy staff of APA's Public Policy Office (PPO) is engaged in federal advocacy on behalf of psychology and to promote psychology's role in addressing mental health, social welfare, civil rights, and other public interest issues. Public Interest Policy staff work to inform members of Congress and federal agency representatives about the relevance of psychology in addressing issues of concern to special populations, including ethnic minorities; women; lesbians, gay men, and bisexuals; children, youth, and families; older adults; and persons with disabilities. In addition, the office advocates for greater federal support and appreciation for behavioral science as applied to various social and health concerns, such as, HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and research; violence prevention and research; and occupational health issues.
