ACT—Adults and Children Together—Against Violence is a national early violence prevention initiative that focuses on adults who raise and care for children ages 0 to 8 years. It is designed to prevent violence by educating parents and other adults to be positive role models and create environments that protect children from violence and teach them positive ways to resolve conflicts. APA/CDC Student Fellowship in Injury Prevention and Control
The American Psychological Association ACT Against Violence Program is accepting applications for 1-year fellowship to be awarded to a graduate student working on research or intervention projects in either unintentional injury prevention or violence prevention from the public health and behavioral science perspectives. The fellowship is funded by the Eligibility and Requirements
Selection Criteria
Proposals will be reviewed by a selection committee and should be related to surveillance, risk factor identification, or intervention development, implementation and evaluation. Research projects will be reviewed based on: a) Significance to the field --- importance of the problem addressed; contribution to advancement of scientific knowledge b) Innovation of the approach --- challenges to existing paradigms; use of new concepts and approaches c) Design plan --- conceptual framework, methodology, activities, analyses
Intervention projects will be reviewed based on: a) Project plan that includes rationale and statement of need; defined audience; description of goals, objectives and activities well integrated; evaluation plan; and dissemination plan b) Cultural competence of approach and materials developed c) Intended contribution to the field Application Procedures: Send the original and three copies of the complete application documents (application form, resume, project proposal); one letter of recommendation and one letter of support to: Julia Silva Applications must be postmarked by _____ to participate in the selection process.
