Committee on Socioeconomic Status
2009 Leadership Awards

APA’s Committee on Socioeconomic Status (CSES) invites nominations, including self-nominations, for the 2009 CSES Leadership Awards. CSES Leadership Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of psychologists and friends of psychology who have made significant contributions to the understanding of socioeconomic status and the lives and wellbeing of the poor by:
- Promoting scientific understanding of the impact of poverty and SES on health, education, and human welfare;
- Developing applications of psychology that address the effects of SES on psychological development and well being; and/or
- Advocating for social policy that will alleviate or reduce disparities among SES groups.
Awards for “emerging” and “distinguished” leadership will be granted. Emerging leaders are psychologists or friends of psychology who have 15 or fewer years of post-doctoral achievements, have made a substantial contribution to SES in psychology, and demonstrate promising professional achievement. Distinguished leaders are psychologists or friends of psychology who have more than 15 years of post-doctoral achievements, a longstanding influence on SES-related issues, and are recognized leaders in their area of expertise.
All nominations must include:
- A letter of nomination that indicates whether the candidate is being nominated as an emerging or a distinguished leader; and describes and supports the individual’s leadership activities, contributions, and scope of influence that advance knowledge for and about SES. Nomination letters should be no more than two pages long.
- A current curriculum vitae.
- Two letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee’s work and service to the discipline.
Nominations and supporting materials will only be accepted as electronic submissions. Incomplete nominations and materials sent after the deadline will not be reviewed. Send nomination materials and direct questions to Toni DeSalvo via email.
Deadline: June 1, 2009
Award recipients will be selected by CSES in summer 2009 and awards will be presented at the 2009 APA Convention CSES Network Meeting in Toronto, Canada. |
