Professional Development Training Resource (PDTR) Pilot Workshop:
Title: Reducing Cancer Disparities and Promoting Health
Equity Among Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Populations
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

Become more aware of own and other’s attitudes towards providing
cancer prevention, early detection, and/or survivorship services to
socioeconomically disadvantaged populations

Describe relevant trends in professional practice for providing services
to socioeconomically disadvantaged populations
-
Identify health disparities/inequities across the cancer continuum
(prevention, early detection and survivorship)
-
Identify evidence/practice-based interventions to reduce health disparities
across the cancer continuum
-
Articulate 3 next steps to take in carrying out intentions to improve
individual, organization, and community level capacities to reduce
cancer health disparities among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations
Description: This interactive training is being piloted
as part of the Socioeconomic Status Related Cancer Disparities Program.
Since this is a pilot, CEU credits will not be offered. However, a small
stipend will be offered to participants who commit to implementing next
steps developed through the training. The program will provide tools and
additional resources to assist in implementing the next steps.
Participants: We are targeting professionals who serve
as the link or interface between clients/the community and organizations
that provide cancer programs and services. These individuals wear various
hats and have different titles, but examples include: community outreach
workers, community advocates, community health representatives, and health
educators.
Dates and Locations:
SESRCD will be piloting its Professional Development Training Resource
(PDTR) Workshops in five cities: Washington, DC, New York, NY, Berlin,
MD, Philadelphia, PA, and Tucson, AZ.
