Professional Development Training Resource (PDTR) Pilot Workshop:

Title: Reducing Cancer Disparities and Promoting Health Equity Among Socioeconomically Disadvantaged Populations

Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to:

  • Become more aware of own and other’s attitudes towards providing cancer prevention, early detection, and/or survivorship services to socioeconomically disadvantaged populations

  • Describe relevant trends in professional practice for providing services to socioeconomically disadvantaged populations

  • Identify health disparities/inequities across the cancer continuum (prevention, early detection and survivorship)

  • Identify evidence/practice-based interventions to reduce health disparities across the cancer continuum

  • Articulate 3 next steps to take in carrying out intentions to improve individual, organization, and community level capacities to reduce cancer health disparities among socioeconomically disadvantaged populations

Description: This interactive training is being piloted as part of the Socioeconomic Status Related Cancer Disparities Program. Since this is a pilot, CEU credits will not be offered. However, a small stipend will be offered to participants who commit to implementing next steps developed through the training. The program will provide tools and additional resources to assist in implementing the next steps.

Participants: We are targeting professionals who serve as the link or interface between clients/the community and organizations that provide cancer programs and services. These individuals wear various hats and have different titles, but examples include: community outreach workers, community advocates, community health representatives, and health educators.
