The Stop Skipping Class campaign was developed in response to recommendations stemming from the APA (2000) Resolution on Poverty and Socioeconomic Status. Specifically, APA recommended that SES be identified for published reports of social sciences research where possible and appropriate.
Stop Skipping Class Campaign
Goals of the Campaign
The goals for the campaign include the following:
- To increase the normative inclusion of information on the SES and social class of research participants within journal articles to facilitate proper contextualizing and interpretation of research findings.
- To improve awareness and utilization of policies within APA journals that encourage authors to report participant characteristics related to SES and social class to the greatest extent possible in sample descriptions.
Objectives
To accomplish these goals, the Stop Skipping Class campaign includes the following objectives:
- To provide journal authors, editors, and funders of research with best practices for the inclusion of SES and social class measures within social science research studies.
- To describe how SES intersects with other social constructs including race or ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and gender identity, and ability status, which can result in differing poverty rates and income disparities.
