White House event examines homeless youth
On July 12, 2012, the White House honored 13 individuals who demonstrated “extraordinary commitments to helping children and youth reach their full potential despite the challenges arising from the experience of homelessness”, as described by Barbara Poppe, executive director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness. James H. Bray, PhD, 2009 APA President and member of the APA Task Force on Psychology’s Contributions to End Homelessness, was formally invited and attended the event.
He describes the event’s mission, the work completed by USICH, LGBT youth homelessness, and further consideration and follow-up points for APA members in a report on the Champions of Change event. In an interview, Bray outlines how psychologists can be involved in the remediation of homelessness.
