  • Human Rights Day, Dec. 10, 2012
On December 10, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which has become the universal standard for the promotion and protection of human rights worldwide. This year, the OSES will recognize Human Rights Day by leading 10-day Twitter campaign, leading up to Dec. 10. We look forward to recognizing Human Rights Day with CSES, APA members and the general public this year.

  • Winter issue of The SES Indicator, "The Neurobehavioral Effects of Poverty"
This month’s article will offer a narrative from guest editor Daniel C. Marston, PhD, ABPP, on the neurobehavioral impacts of living in poverty from three perspectives. It will underscore how deficits associated with poverty (e.g., lack of financial resources, lack of adequate health care) significantly affect neurological factors impacting on behaviors, and how poverty as a chronic stressor impacts on neurological aspects of behaviors. Lastly, the article will offer strategies as to how psychologists might contribute in addressing these issues and lessen the significant effect that poverty has on neurobehavioral development.

  • National Slavery and Human Trafficking Awareness Month, January 2013
The Committee on Socioeconomic Status (CSES), its office and APA members will recognize January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month to raise awareness, advocacy and promote the enforcement of human trafficking laws.

  • APA Consolidated Meetings in Washington, D.C., March 15-17, 2013
The Committee on Socioeconomic Status meets for its first time in 2013. Official CSES monitors from state psychological associations or APA divisions receive advance copies of our committee meeting agendas and subsequent agenda minutes. Monitors provide comments and/or suggestions for committee activities and programs. If you are interested in serving as a CSES monitor, please contact us.
