National Human Trafficking Resources

On December 30, 2011, President Obama proclaimed January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month:1

"Human trafficking endangers the lives of millions of people around the world, and it is a crime that knows no borders. Trafficking networks operate both domestically and transnationally, and although abuses disproportionally affect women and girls, the victims of this ongoing global tragedy are men, women, and children of all ages."1

Did you know?
  • After drug dealing, trafficking of humans is tied with arms dealing as the second largest criminal industry in the world, and is the fastest growing?2

  • The U.S. State Department estimates 12.3 million adults and children are currently in forced, bonded labor, and forced prostitution, adding that 56 percent of these victims are women and girls?3

  • The average age of entry into prostitution for girls is 12-14 years old?4

The National Human Trafficking Resource Center (NHTRC) is a national, toll-free hotline, available to answer calls from anywhere in the country, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year.
