APA-NIOSH Interdisciplinary Conference on Work, Stress, and Health
Six pre-conference workshops were offered on diverse topics addressing occupational stress and workplace wellness. All workshops were 3 hours in length, excpet one, which was 4 hours in length. the American Psychological Association's Committee on Continuing Education (CE) sponsored the sessions which enabled attendees to attain APA Continuing Education Credits (either 3 or 4 credits based on the length of the sessions attended). Following is a listing of the workshop titles and trainers: 3-hour morning workshops: 9:00 A.M. - 12:00 Noon (3 APA CE credits each) 1. Work, Stress, and Health in Small and Medium-sized Businesses: Challenges for the 21st Century - Daniel Stokols, PhD, and Shari McMahan, PhD, UCI Health Promotion Center, University of California, Irvine; and Liz A. Torres, MSW, Worksite Wellness Project, Los Angeles 2. Treatment and Assessment of Disability - C. Donald Williams, MD, CGP, Ronald Schouten, JD, MD, and Miguel Leibovich, MD, CGP, Child Adult and Group Psychotherapy, Yakima, WA 3. Stories To Live By: Interactive-Narrative Simulation Exercises That Promote Workplace Health and Safety - Henry P. Cole, EdD, University of Kentucky 3-hour afternoon workshops: 1:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. (3 APA CE credits each) 4. Setting Up a Consulting Practice/Business - Kurt Kraiger, PhD, University of Colorado at Denver 5. Application of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to Individuals with Psychiatric Disabilities - Christopher Kuczynski, JD, LLM, U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission 4-hour afternoon workshop: 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. (4 APA CE credits each) 6. Work Organization Interventions for Reducing Stress and Improving Health - Marla Haims, PhD, University of Wisconsin; and Lawrence Murphy, PhD, National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
