Women in the American Psychological Association: 2006

Did you know?

· Women earned 14.8% of doctorates in psychology in 1950.

· Women earned 67.4% of doctorates in psychology in 2004.

· In 2005, 53% of full members of APA were women.

Yet:

  • 15 (28%) of 53 total APA divisions had a third or fewer women among division officers in 2005.
  • The percentage of women on the Board of Directors fluctuates year to year: 31% in 2001 and 2002; 38% in 2003; 31% in 2004; and 38% in 2005.
  • In 2005, 38% of individuals elected to Fellow status were women.
