Please join us for the annual Education Advocacy breakfast meeting, which is once again being co-sponsored with the APA
Public Interest Directorate. This year we are delighted to announce that Dr. DeLeon will moderate a panel discussion
regarding efforts to gain greater participation by psychologists in federal Community Health Centers and the National Health
Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program (LRP). Dr. Salvador, a current NHSC-LRP participant, will speak about the role
of psychologists in providing integrated health care services at federally qualified community health centers (FQHCs) and the
benefits of training psychology interns in these centers. Next, Dr. Hawley, former NHSC-LRP payor, will talk about the
opportunities and obstacles for psychologists in the NHSC-LRP, and Dr. Powers will then speak about training graduate
psychology students to work in FQHCs and the value of participating in the NHSC Ambassador's Program. Drs. Salvdor, Hawley
and Powers are all current NHSC Ambassadors.
Finally, Dr. Saywitz, Chair of the APA Working Group on Child Maltreatment Prevention in Community Health Centers, will
conclude the discussion with highlights from the Working Group's recent report: Effective Strategies to Support Positive
Parenting in Community Health Centers.
Mark you calendars to attend! As always, the breakfast meeting is free and open to members of the Education Advocacy
Grassroots Network and all other interested individuals. The annual meeting not only enables us to share legislative updates
and information directly with APA members, but also gives us an opportunity to gather important feedback and support from
psychologists in the field.
PLEASE RSVP – In order to ensure adequate room and catering arrangements, please RSVP by July 15th to Jess Goshow or phone (202) 336-6062.
