APA Education Directorate staff successfully advocated in 2006 for the establishment of the Defense Graduate Psychology Education (GPE) program within the Department of Defense. The funds supported the creation of a Washington, D.C., Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which was developed to promote the education of psychologists and other behavioral health specialists about issues pertaining to the deployment of military personnel.
