Training in Integrated Health Care
The National Health Services Corps (NHSC) recruits and places health professionals at eligible sites within federally designated Health Professions Shortage Areas (HPSAs). NHSC recruits primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, certified nurse-midwives, dentists, dental hygienists, and mental health professionals. These providers serve in community-based systems of care in return for scholarship or loan repayment assistance.
Community Health Centers provide critical primary and preventive health care services to individuals regardless of their ability to pay. These health centers are located in medically underserved urban and rural areas where there is little access to basic health care services, and primarily serve low-income individuals, migrant farm workers, homeless individuals, and children.
