The Office on Aging

The Office on Aging in the APA Public Interest Directorate serves as the coordination point for the Association’s activities pertaining to aging. The Office on Aging works to promote psychology issues within APA, among APA members, other professionals and the public. It is an information and referral source that strives to bring psychological knowledge to bear on discussions regarding matters that affect older adults. The Committee on Aging (CONA)

CONA is a six-member committee of psychologists with substantive professional expertise in aging issues who are selected to serve three-year terms. The goal of CONA is to advance psychology as a science and profession and as a means of promoting health and human welfare by ensuring that older adults, especially the growing numbers of older women and minorities, receive the attention of the Association. CONA works toward the optimal development of older adults, expanded scientific understanding of adult development and aging, and the delivery of appropriate psychological services to older persons. 
 
CONA’s current members include Toni C. Antonucci, Ph.D. (Chair), University of Michigan; Rosemary Blieszner, Ph.D., Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University; Florence L. Denmark, Ph.D., Pace University; Barry Edelstein, Ph.D., West Virginia University; Peter A. Aging Policy Team in the Public Policy Office

The Public Policy Office works closely with the Office on Aging on aging policy issues at the federal level. This collaborative team includes Diane Elmore, Ph.D., Senior Legislative and Federal Affairs Officer, and Nina Levitt, Ed.D., Director of Education Policy. 

Aging issues have been at the forefront in Washington, D.C., and the policy team has been working with legislators to ensure that psychology’s contributions to the health and well- being of older adults are recognized. APA Divisions

APA Division 20 (Adult Development & Aging) - APA's Division 20 is concerned with the study of psychological development and change throughout the adult years. This site includes resources for educators, information about graduate programs for students interested in pursuing this field, publications, conference information, and links to other sites.

APA Division 12-II (Clinical Geropsychology) - APA's Division 12, Section II is devoted to research, training, and the provision of psychological services for older adults (i.e., geropsychology). This site includes information on geropsychology training guidelines, training opportunities for students and professionals including clinical psychology internships, postdoctoral fellowship opportunities, and continuing education offerings, and research funding and job information.
