APA's PsycARTICLES now fully loaded on EBSCO, OCLC, OVID, and SilverPlatter

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The American Psychological Association (APA) has announced that the PsycARTICLES™ full-text database (1988–present) is now fully loaded on EBSCO, OCLC, Ovid, and SilverPlatter.

"We're delighted that the entire file is now available to institutions through four of APA's vendor partners," said Linda Beebe, Senior Director, PsycINFO. "We can now meet the pent-up demand we've been hearing about from so many librarians for electronic full text of these premier journals with a choice of interfaces."

By licensing PsycARTICLES, institutions can access nearly 30,000 articles from 43 journals published by APA, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe and Huber. Seven more journals are being added now, and by 2003 the backfile is expected to extend to 1985. The database is the only means of electronic access to these peer-reviewed journals. Because APA does not disperse its titles in aggregated collections, institutions can be assured that they will pay only one time for the content.

PsycARTICLES offers users the advantages of a database and the attributes of a single title. This means users can search an entire database of thousands of articles or they can browse or search a single journal title or table of contents. Likewise, they can search and browse in HTML or read a print replica in PDF format.

Site license prices for PsycARTICLES are based on the size and type of institution. Fee structures are in place for four-year academic institutions, junior/community colleges, public libraries, hospitals, corporations, government, and other professional groups (non-profits, group practices, and so forth).

To give institutions the opportunity to evaluate the product, 30-day free trials of PsycARTICLES are available on all four vendor systems. For a free trial, institutions should contact their vendor sales representative (vendors for PsycARTICLES are listed at www.apa.org/psycarticles/vendors.html) or contact APA Sales & Licensing at 800-374-2722 or 202-336-5650.

About PsycARTICLES, PsycINFO, and APA

PsycARTICLES is a complementary database to PsycINFO®, which is always among the most heavily used databases on university campuses. Now users can search PsycINFO and link directly to full text in APA journal articles, which formerly were available to institutional users in print only. In addition to the EBSCO, OCLC, Ovid, and SilverPlatter delivery, PsycARTICLES is available directly from APA and will soon be available on ProQuest and NISC. Other distribution contracts are in negotiation. More information about PsycARTICLES can be found at www.apa.org/psycarticles.

The PsycINFO abstract database provides access to international professional literature in psychology and such related disciplines as medicine, psychiatry, social work, nursing, sociology, business, education, pharmacology, and physiology. Providing both a deep backfile and timely access to current research through weekly updates, PsycINFO spans the history of the discipline, from the origins of psychology in the nineteenth century to the cutting-edge findings of today's behavioral sciences. More information about PsycARTICLES can be found at www.apa.org/psycinfo.

The American Psychological Association, in Washington, D.C., is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world's largest association of psychologists. APA's membership includes more than 155,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students. Through its divisions in 55 subfields of psychology and affiliations with 59 state, territorial and Canadian provincial associations, APA works to advance psychology as a science, as a profession, and as a means of promoting human welfare.
