Regional Association Materials Are in PsycEXTRA®

The seven Regional Psychological Associations are an important source of research materials. They provide conference materials, organization information, and lots of practical advice on publishing and practice.

One of the linchpins of the psychology world is the network of seven regional psychological associations. The advantages of a regional hub are obvious: They allow psychologists and students to share knowledge and develop professional networks through local activities, primarily an annual convention.

Materials from most of the associations are archived in PsycEXTRA®. Let's take a look at one of the associations, the Midwestern Psychological Association, and the range of materials they have contributed to PsycEXTRA users.

Searching by Midwestern Psychological Association or by MPA as Content Owner, I found more than 6,300 records as of October 2012. For a more manageable set of results, I refined my search to the past five years and only those records that had associated full text, which still returned over 1,250 results.

A quick look at the material returned by document type shows that the MPA has made all of its conference materials available. The results include recent Conference Presentations, Conference Programs, and hundreds of Conference Abstracts, as well as Standards and Guidelines. In addition to the psychological research information, they include many resources on practical advice such as how to publish your journal article and enter the academic market places. These are a marvelous resource for current information on psychological research. If you can't get to a conference, the materials are available to anyone who has access to PsycEXTRA.
