Volunteers of America names APA member to manage veterans’ mental health services

Johnathan Sherin, MD, PhD, will guide the expansion of psychological services at the human service-focused nonprofit

Dr. Johnathan SherinVolunteers of America, one of the nation’s oldest and largest human service charities, recently named APA member Dr. Jonathan Sherin as executive vice president for veteran’s affairs and chief medical officer. In this position, he will assist in expanding the organization’s services for veterans, helping to combat post-traumatic stress, depression, mild traumatic brain injury, substance abuse and dependence, suicide and more.

Jon is an innovative leader with an entrepreneurial spirit that will help us continue to grow and strengthen our programs on a national level,” said Volunteers of America National President Mike King.

Previously, Dr. Sherin served as chief of mental health for the Miami Veterans’ Administration Healthcare System and professor and vice chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Miami.
