TIME and White House recognize APA member’s work to support military families
Dr. Barbara Van Dahlen was named one of the "100 most influential people in the world for 2012," in TIME magazine’s annual special issue. A clinical psychologist based in Washington, D.C., Van Dahlen founded and leads the nonprofit organization Give an Hour, which enables approximately 6,000 licensed mental health professionals, including psychologists, to donate their services to a service member, veteran or their family.
In addition, first lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden announced that Give an Hour was one of six organizations to win the “Joining Forces Community Challenge,” an “effort to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary efforts of citizens and organizations across the country that are working to improve the lives of military families,” according to a White House press release.
