Public comments requested on Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice
Developed by the Interprofessional Education Collaborative, the Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (PDF, 1.18MB) were created to recognize that trainees in health professions should become effective members of interprofessional health care teams before they complete their formal training. The Board of Educational Affairs endorsed these core competencies at its November 2011 meeting.
The document offers a framework to discuss ways to meet the rapid changes occurring in health care and the education of the health care workforce. The report stresses competencies in values and ethics; roles and responsibilities; interprofessional communication; and teams and teamwork. Each is consistent with discussions in professional psychology education and training that focus on a competency-based approach to education and training as well as on preparing students to work in interprofessional contexts.
You can comment on the report online through Nov. 1, 2012.
