Responding to the Connecticut school shooting: Reaching out in your community

Find materials that can help psychologists respond to media requests or speak at local forums.

All Americans, including the APA family, have been deeply saddened by the horrific tragedy that took place on Friday at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Immediately after Friday’s shooting, APA began fulfilling requests from reporters covering the situation and highlighting APA content about trauma and recovery on the APA website. We created a special condolences and tribute feature on the homepage carousel of APA.org and used it as a segue to public education content about how traumatic events impact us and the healing process.

Access the APA homepage; the tribute content is posted online. This landing page brings the reader to tailored information throughout the APA website, including the consumer information “Psychology Help Center.”

We are sending this special issue of APA Access to all members as these materials may be helpful to you in responding to media requests or at local forums.
