New Brain Cell Production in Mammal Adult Brains: What are the Connections Between Hormones and the Environment in Cell Production?
WHAT: Dr. Gould's research has shown that new neurons are produced in areas of the adult brain in mammals including primates. These cells thrive in enriched environments in which the animals are learning but can be destroyed by stress or unchallenging environments. Dr. Gould will discuss the underlying mechanism of new brain cell production.
WHO:
Elizabeth Gould, PhD, has done revolutionary work on neurogenesis, which is the regeneration of neurons and its effect on and by the environment.
WHEN: Saturday, August 24, 3:00 - 3:50 PM (Session 3244)
WHERE: McCormick Place, South Building - Level 1, Meeting Room S106a
