ANN D. SPRINGER JOINS AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION AS ASSOCIATE GENERAL COUNSEL

WASHINGTON, DC—Ann D. Springer, JD, has joined the senior staff of the American Psychological Association (APA) as Associate General Counsel.

In her new position, Springer will be part of a team providing legal advice on a wide range of issues facing the Association. The Office of General Counsel (OGC) is responsible for all aspects of legal counsel for the Association. OGC also prepares amicus briefs on a range of public policy issues before federal and state courts, advising the courts of psychological research of relevance to the issues to be decided.

“Springer comes to the APA with expertise in a variety of areas that will benefit the OGC in providing legal representation of the Association. Her deep experience in non-profit tax, higher education, litigation and employment law make her an ideal addition to our legal team,” stated Nathalie Gilfoyle, APA’s General Counsel. “We are very pleased to have her join us.”

Prior to her APA appointment, Springer was Associate Counsel and then Counsel at the American Association of University Professors. In earlier roles Springer was Acting Director of the Women and the Law Clinic at American University’s Washington College of Law and practiced law at McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, and Enersen in San Francisco.

Ms. Springer graduated from Wellesley College with honors, earning her BA in English and Psychology. She received her Doctorate of Law from Northwestern University School of Law, graduating with great honors.

The American Psychological Association (APA), in Washington, DC, is the largest scientific and professional organization representing psychology in the United States and is the world’s largest association of psychologists. APA’s membership includes more than 148,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students. Through its divisions in 54 subfields of psychology and affiliations with 60 state, territorial and Canadian provincial associations, APA works to advance psychology as a science, as a profession and as a means of promoting human welfare.
