APA ONLINE RuralPSYCH
RuralPsych-A Resource Center for Rural Behavioral Health

The staff of the APA Office of Rural Health and the APA Computer Office have developed a world wide web site (RuralPSYCH) to serve as a resource for providers, purchasers, and consumers of behavioral health care in frontier and rural areas. The goal of RuralPSYCH is to alleviate the two primary problems encountered by psychologists providing mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) treatment in frontier and rural areas: 1) professional isolation and 2) lack of current treatment information. At this time, efforts are concentrated on the use of the World Wide Web to provide a means for psychologists practicing in rural and frontier areas to communicate with each other and access expert resources in tertiary care centers and academic institutions.

The site has seven boxes that users can 'click' on to gain information. The boxes provide:

  1. Information about RuralPSYCH
  2. Full text of important APA Reports and other documents.
  3. An on-line means to 'join the initiative' and subscribe to the Rural Health Bulletin and receive other materials produced by the APA Office of Rural Health
  4. A listing of other rural resources on the internet and world wide web and immediate access to them
  5. A box devoted to Interdisciplinary work in rural areas
  6. An email to RuralPSYCH (and the APA Office of Rural Health) capability
  7. A complete listing of rural psychology Internship and Training Programs
  8. A way to return to the APA Home Page

New developments of particular interest to rural behavioral health are announced on the page. Below please find a list of the members on the APA Committee on Rural Health.
