Summer Science Fellowships
2009 marked the second year of the Summer Science Fellowships (SSF) program. An offshoot of the successful Summer Science Institute, SSF immerses advanced undergraduate students in the science of psychology by exposing them to the excitement and promise of the best of psychological science. The principal objective is to help prepare them for the rigors of graduate study in psychological science.
This year, the program provided the means to explore the intellectual, personal, and social processes of scientific inquiry and to experience cutting-edge psychological research through hands-on laboratory activities. Undergraduate participants were given the opportunity to equip themselves with the skills essential to success in graduate school, while being mentored by nationally-known faculty.
Eight talented students were placed in psychology laboratories at George Mason University and the University of Maryland for a six week period (June 22 - July 31). This year's 8 outstanding fellows were chosen from a pool of nearly 200 applicants. Their names, universities, SSF mentors (in italics), and university placements (in italics) are listed below.
