Research Funding Opportunities
OppNet: NIH Basic Behavioral & Social Science Initiative
The National Institutes of Health has opened the website for its new Basic Behavioral and Social Science Opportunity Network (OppNet).
The OppNet initiative is jointly supported by all of the research funding components of NIH. It aims to promote “activities and initiatives that focus on basic mechanisms of behavior and social processes,” particularly those that are “relevant to the missions and public health challenges of multiple NIH Institutes, Centers and Offices.”
It is anticipated that funding for OppNet projects in Fiscal Year 2010 will be about $11-12 million (much of it drawn from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009). The first OppNet funding opportunity announcements were recently released:
RFA-OD-10-003: Short-term mentored career development awards (deadline: Feb. 18)
NOT-OD-10-032: Supplementary funds for existing NIH research grants (deadline: March 2)
NOT-OD-10-034: Supplementary funds for existing NIH small business grants (deadline: March 25)
Additional announcements for funding opportunities in Fiscal Year 2011 are expected to be released later this year.
