Mentorship program for graduate students and postdocs at 2014 APA convention

Application deadline is March 15, 2014.

A mentoring and networking opportunity is being offered at the 2014 convention of the American Psychological Association (APA) for promising new scientists in the fields of behavioral neuroscience, comparative psychology, experimental psychology and psychopharmacology. The program is sponsored by APA divisions 3 (Experimental Psychology), 6 (Behavioral Neuroscience and Comparative Psychology) and 28 (Psychopharmacology), and the APA Committee on Animal Research and Ethics.

Both advanced graduate students and scientists in postdoctoral training are eligible to apply; they may conduct research with either humans or non-human animals. APA membership is not required. Up to 14 applicants will be selected to receive a travel award to attend the APA convention in Washington, D.C. (Aug. 7-10, 2014), where they will participate in professional development activities designed to help them: develop meaningful contacts with one another, senior scientists in their fields and funding agency officials; navigate the increasingly diverse professional settings that they will encounter in their research careers; and identify with APA as a professional home.

This program also aims to make the research community more inclusive; toward this end, applications from scientists from underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged.

The travel award of up to $1,000 is provided to defray each awardee's travel, accommodations, and registration costs. Attendance at all program activities, including participating in workshops and making a brief research poster presentation, is expected as a condition of the award.

To apply for the award, submit a statement of your research interests, a CV, and a copy of a recent paper (published or in press) by March 15, 2014, to Sangeeta Panicker, PhD, director, Research Ethics Office, Science Directorate. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the selection process by mid-April, 2014.
