Workshop: The Academic Career--A Beginner's Manual

The workshop, co-sponsored by the American Psychological Association and the Council of Graduate Departments of Psychology, is designed to help psychologists in the early stages of an academic career cope with the range of professional issues that are unique to the academic environment. Once hired, new faculty members must learn to manage their multiple responsibilities, learn to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, build their research programs, seek funds from internal and external sources, and develop working relationships with their colleagues and with their graduate students. The speakers are all current, or previously serving, chairs of departments of psychology.

The workshop is held annually as part of the APA Convention. The workshop will be held on August 4, 2000 in the Auditorium of the Renaissance Washington Hotel.

This workshop is jointly sponsored by the Board of Scientific Affairs and the Board of Educational Affairs.
