Early Graduate Student Research Award Selection Criteria
The following criteria apply to the Basic, Applied, and Interdisciplinary Science awards:
- The applicant clearly expressed understanding of the field of inquiry and posed meaningful research questions.
- The student made significant theoretical contributions to the respective field of psychology, and/or
- The student made significant application contributions to the respective field of psychology and to society.
- The applicant demonstrated his/her intellectual merit, important in aspects such as conceptualization and design.
- The applicant demonstrated independence and originality in his/her research program.
All criteria will be considered within the context of the individual's overall career goals as evidenced by prior research involvement in psychological science.
Applicants must be graduate students of psychology currently enrolled in a doctoral program and in good standing at a regionally accredited university or college located in the United States or Canada. Applicants must currently be in the first three years of a doctoral program at the time of the application deadline in order to be eligible for this award.
Applicants must be student affiliates or associate members of the American Psychological Association. Students who are not affiliates must apply for affiliation when submitting materials for the Early Graduate Student Researcher Award. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate outstanding research abilities earlier in their graduate training, and to applicants showing a greater level of independence in conducting their research.
