Recipients of the 2003 Meritorious Research Service Commendation

Recipients of 2003 Research Service Commendation

The recipients of the 2003 Meritorious Research Service Commendation were honored at the December 2003 meeting of the APA Board of Directors. The award was developed by the Board of Scientific Affairs (BSA) to recognize those unsung but outstanding psychologists in the federal government who advance the discipline by their programmatic activities-typically by fostering the research of others. This commendation recognizes the important contributions to the discipline that these psychologists make by identifying funding streams, developing new directions, and fostering research opportunities. Nominations for the 2004 Meritorious Research Service Commendations are now being solicited and the deadline for submission is March 8, 2004. Please see the list of announcements for details. Attend An Academic Career Workshop

As part of its outreach to graduate students and postdocs, the Science Directorate is proud to sponsor, “Academic Career Workshops” throughout the country. Topics range from a description of variations in the academic culture across institutions to the pragmatics of the recruiting and hiring process. Accomplished panelists share their insights, with plenty of opportunity for discussion.

The next workshop will be held at the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in Austin, TX on January 29, 2004 from 9:30 am – 11:30 am. Other workshops in 2004 are being planned for the Southwestern Psychological Association, Midwestern Psychological Association, Eastern Psychological Association and the Asian American Psychological Association.

These workshops are FREE! Look for more details to come on the APA Science website at www.apa.org/science.
