2009 APA Distinguished Scientific Awards Program - Call for Nominations
The American Psychological Association invites nominations for its scientific awards program for 2009. The deadline for all applications is June 2, 2008 (postmark).
The Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award honors psychologists who have made distinguished theoretical or empirical contributions to basic research in psychology.
The Distinguished Scientific Award for the Applications of Psychology honors psychologists who have made distinguished theoretical or empirical advances in psychology leading to the understanding or amelioration of important practical problems.
The Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology recognizes excellent young psychologists. For the 2009 program, nominations of persons who received doctoral degrees during and since 1999 are being sought in these five areas:
- Social
- Perception, Motor Performance
- Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience
- Applied Research (e.g., treatment and prevention research, industrial/organizational research, educational research)
- Individual Differences (e.g., personality, psychometrics, mental ability, behavioral genetics)
These categories should be interpreted broadly and are not meant to be exclusive; all of psychology is of sufficient merit to be considered for awards.

Submission Guidelines
Deadline: June 2, 2008 (postmark) for all applications.
- To submit a nomination for the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award and the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award for the Applications of Psychology , please provide a letter of nomination, nomination form, nominee's current vita with list of publications, the names and addresses of several scientists who are familiar with the nominee's work, list of ten most significant and representative publications, and at least five reprints representative of the nominee's contribution (reprints, preferably in electronic form).
- To submit a nomination for the Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology (ECA), please provide a letter of nomination (at least two pages in length), a current vita, and no more than five reprints representative of the nominee's contributions (reprints, preferably in electronic form).
The Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award was established in 1956; the Distinguished Scientific Contribution Award for the Applications of Psychology was established in 1973; and the Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology was established in 1974. * Each of these awards consists of a citation and a cash prize, which are presented at the APA Annual Convention.
