Using Large-Scale Databases: NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
August 4-8, 2008
Overview
The application process for this Advanced Training Institute requires more than a simple application form, because attending the institute includes receiving and using sensitive data. Applicants must not only apply to attend the ATI itself, but must also apply for and receive approval for their proposed use of the data from their own Institutional Review Board, and apply to receive the data from the study consortium. Please follow the instructions below, and be sure to contact us if you have any questions or difficulties.
The Application Process
Two steps must be taken by April 15 in order to apply for this ATI. First, confirm that you are eligible. Then, fill out and submit APA's online application no later than April 15, 2008.
After the deadline, APA staff will review all applications and make selections. We will notify you by email no later than May 1 about whether you have been selected to attend.
You will have from the time of notification until June 15 to secure IRB approval and send your completed RTI application to the Research Triangle Institute at the address listed on the application. Please note that you should have a solid research plan before applying to this ATI. You will need to seek IRB approval immediately after acceptance into the program in order to meet the firm June 15 deadline to submit the RTI application to obtain sensitive data.
A completed RTI application, including IRB approval, research staff agreements, and institutional signatures, is required to attend this ATI. This application ensures researcher and institutional ability to protect the confidentiality and privacy of the NICHD study participants.
The RTI application is in .pdf format, which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader. If needed, Adobe Acrobat can be downloaded free of charge.
Again, there are four steps in the application process for this ATI:
1. Fill out and submit the online application by April 15.
2. Receive an email notification from APA by May 1.
3. Obtain approval from your local IRB by June 15.
4. Submit a complete RTI application packet by June 15.
