How do I troubleshoot log-in difficulties other than a forgotten password (for members)?
If you are having any difficulty logging in to your members-only access — other than a forgotten password — you may find a remedy to your problem in one of these common solutions.
Make sure your browser is set to enable or allow cookies. The APA websites depend upon cookies to keep track of your log-in status, your access level, and other essential information.
Also, make sure your “firewall” program (if you have one) does not block cookies.
Check your browser's Security options to ensure APA websites are not being blocked.
**Note that all of this information is subject to change. You may want to go to your browser home for information on the latest browsers and options**
For Internet Explorer (Version 7), go to the Tools menu, then to Internet Options, then the Security tab, then click on "Trusted Sites," then click the “Sites” button. Enter "apa.org" and "psycinfo.com" as trusted sites.
For other browsers, you can always use the “help” function to locate instructions.
Clear your Internet browser “cache” (cache is a collection of folders holding temporary files created as you visit websites). Sometimes your Internet browser retains an incomplete version of a temporary file, which prevents you from accessing the complete version until you have cleared the cache.
To clear the cache in Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, then to Internet Options, then to the General tab, and then click the ”Delete” button in the “Browsing History” section. There you can click the “Delete Files” button.
In other browsers, you will typically find it in the "Options," "Privacy," or "Security" settings.
You can always use your browser’s “help” function to locate instructions on clearing browser cache.
If your Internet browser (or a password manager utility program) is automatically “remembering” your APA password, clear your stored passwords and then log-in again
For Internet Explorer, go to the Tools menu, then Internet Options, then choose the General tab, and then the ”Delete” button in the “Browsing History” section. There you can click the ”Delete Passwords” button.
If you use another browser, you will typically find the stored passwords function under the Tools menu, then Options, then look for the "Privacy" or "Security" settings. In Netscape, look for the "Passcard Manager."
