APA Psychotherapy Videotape Series - APA Psychotherapy Stimulus Series

The videos in the APA Psychotherapy Stimulus Series present "critical incidents" that therapists might encounter in therapeutic sessions and demonstrate appropriate therapeutic responses. The vignettes used to create these stimulus training tapes were selected from the APA Psychotherapy Video Series master tapes. In some cases, the vignette was drawn from the actual videotaped session, and in other cases the vignette was drawn from other videotaped material produced in preparation for the series.

These videos feature clients portrayed by actors on the basis of actual case material. The therapists were not briefed in advance on the nature of the scenario being acted out, and therefore their responses are spontaneous and unrehearsed.

This material was prepared by the developers of the APA Psychotherapy Video Series: John C. Norcross, Donald K. Freedheim, Julia Frank-McNeil, Gary R. VandenBos, and Margaret M. Schlegel. Grateful acknowledgement is made to all the participants in the series from which these vignettes were culled.
