APA’s Education Directorate Supports Federal Legislation to Ease Graduate Student Loan Debt

On July 9, 2012, the Education Directorate sent to Representative Hansen Clarke (D-Mich.) a letter of support (PDF, 32KB) for the Student Loan Forgiveness Act of 2012 (H.R. 4170).

This legislation establishes the 10/10 loan repayment plan and creates more generous incentives for graduates who enter public service fields. Moreover, it would lower the interest rates on all new federal direct loans to 3.4 percent, including those for unsubsidized loans for graduate study. All of these changes would be beneficial to our members who have made significant financial investments to pursue their doctorates in psychology.

The Education Directorate, through its Government Relations Office, continues to work with APA Members and Congress to advance this legislation as well as other means of supporting doctoral level study in psychology.
